A year full of energy: highlights of the Tunisian-German Partnership in 2025

Throughout 2025, the Tunisian-German Energy Partnership activated complementary levers

Political dialogue, international presence, skills development and investor mobilisation, to pursue its mission of transforming energy ambitions into concrete actions.

A look back at a year in which energy flowed continuously between institutions and businesses.

The energy of dialogue: consolidating political alliances

The energy transition begins with a shared vision. In March 2025, a delegation from the Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy (MIME) took part in the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD), one of the leading international conferences on energy policy.

This participation served to strengthen the political and strategic dialogue between Tunisia and Germany on the issues of decarbonisation, energy security and bilateral cooperation.

A Ramadan iftar, organised in the presence of His Excellency the Tunisian Ambassador to Germany, also provided an ideal setting for consolidating institutional relations and strengthening trust between partners.

This momentum continued in May in Tunis, during the 11th Tunisian-German Energy Day. Public decision-makers, economic actors and experts gathered to discuss energy policies, sustainable investments and demand side management technologies. Through this event, the Tunisian-German Energy Partnership confirmed its role as a strategic platform for dialogue and cooperation.

Energy on the move: solar and wind power on the European scene

In 2025, Tunisia affirmed its energy ambitions at major European energy and innovation events.

In May, a Tunisian delegation composed of representatives from the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy (MIME), the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) and the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME) took part in the Smarter E Europe trade fair in Munich, Europe's leading solar energy plateform. This event provided an opportunity to showcase Tunisian solar projects, discover innovative technological solutions and strengthen partnerships with German companies. Business-to-Government round tables, a national stand and networking sessions highlighted this strategic presence.

In September, participation in the HUSUM Wind trade fair highlighted Tunisia's wind energy potential. Discussions with industry players and visits to wind farms and digital platforms illustrated technological and operational advances, while consolidating industrial cooperation between Tunisia and Germany.

Participation in these trade fairs has reinforced Tunisia's visibility as a credible and attractive investment destination in renewable energies.

The energy of knowledge: training those involved in the transition

The success of the energy transition depends on solid skills and clear frameworks. In 2025, the Tunisian-German Energy Partnership focused on strengthening the capacities of decision-makers and operators in the sector. A series of training courses dedicated to renewable energy projects led by Independent Power Producers (IPPs) provided an in-depth look at the legal, contractual, financial and technical aspects of these projects. Three successive sessions covered key contracts, project financing mechanisms and the technical components involved in connecting to and operating the grid.

At the same time, another training programme was devoted to HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technologies, which are essential for the development of long-distance electricity interconnections and cross-border electricity exchanges. This training strengthened the network operator's capacity to plan, design and operate these infrastructures, which are strategic for the Tunisian and European energy transition.

Energy for industry: supporting the transformation of the automotive sector

In 2025, particular attention was paid to renewable energies in the Tunisian automotive industry, a key sector of the national economy. An initial workshop dedicated to self-production of renewable energy raised awareness among manufacturers of the opportunities offered by this system, addressing the regulatory framework, feedback and the technical and financial challenges associated with its implementation. Following on from this, a second workshop was organised on the financing of renewable energy projects in the automotive sector. This meeting highlighted the mechanisms for financing renewable energy projects and confirmed the emergence of an industrial ecosystem ready to invest and accelerate its energy transition.

The energy of investment: mobilising the private sector

The Local Business Advisory Council (LBAC), held virtually in November 2025, provided a strategic platform for dialogue between German companies and energy market players in Tunisia and Germany. This meeting provided an opportunity to gather the expectations, challenges and recommendations of the private sector in order to fuel the Tunisian-German political dialogue and promote an environment more conducive to private investment in Tunisia's energy transition.

Positive, forward-looking cooperation

In 2025, the Tunisian-German Energy Partnership demonstrated that the energy transition is the result of an integrated approach: political dialogue, technological innovation, skills development, industrial transformation and investor mobilisation.

More than just an annual review, this dynamic illustrates the conviction that when energies come together, the transition accelerates sustainably.

All the actions undertaken by the Tunisian-German Energy Partnership have only been possible with the support of our partners, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), the Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy (MIME), the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) and the Tunisian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Tunisia ).
